Sean Copeland has a diverse work experience, beginning with an internship at Northrop Grumman Corporation in 2005. Sean held two additional internships at the same company in 2006 and 2007, with their role in 2007 being an Intern where they catalogued supporting documentation for contract requirement verification and established processes for verifying UAV functional configuration with the customer. From 2006 to 2009, Sean was a Math/Science Tutor at UCLA, and from 2009 to 2012 they were a Graduate Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at Stanford University. In 2011, they were an Aerothermodynamics Branch Intern at NASA Ames Research Center, where they performed analysis to quantify effects of statistical variation in material properties to ablation model predictions, and established uncertainty quantification methodologies for the Mars Science Laboratory Entry, Descent and Landing Instrumentation program. From 2012 to 2015, Sean was a Developer at SU2 Open Source CFD, where they implemented infrastructure, numerical methods and physical models to support calculation of high Mach number, high enthalpy gas mixtures in thermochemical non-equilibrium on unstructured meshes, and co-managed source code version control server. Most recently, Sean has been a Software Developer at Luminary Cloud since 2021.
Sean Copeland obtained their B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles between 2004 and 2008. Sean then went on to pursue their M.S. in Aeronautics & Astronautics from Stanford University, which they completed in 2010. Finally, they earned their Ph.D. in Aeronautics & Astronautics from Stanford University between 2010 and 2015.
