James Smith began their career in 1990 as a Fire Control Tech for the U.S Navy. In 2012, they joined Lumitex, Inc. as a Manufacturing Engineer. In this role, they used AutoCAD, drew prototype equipment, developed 2D for product dimensions, component placement, and laser etching, developed electronic board assemblies in CAD, designed and fabricated prototype samples based on customer requirements, read and designed basic electronic schematic related to LED lighting circuits, wrote test plans and procedures for new products and improvement of existing products, conducted tests and troubleshot products from the prototype through production stage-gates, and was proficient in the use of electronic test equipment and testing tools. james was also the sole responsible person for in house laser manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting and repairing faulty electronic equipment, and providing prompt return to service. Additionally, they held the role of LAN Admin.

James Smith began their educational journey in 1990 when they attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School, where they studied the basics of submarine nuclear power, mechanical, and hydraulics. james then furthered their education by taking Basic Electronics Rate Training, where they studied electronics theory. Finally, they attended Underwater Fire Control Tech Guns "A" School in 1991, where they learned about electronics and weapons systems on US Submarines.
