Kelley Virgilio has extensive work experience, beginning as an intern at The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in 2006. Kelley then worked as a Project Engineer and later as an Assistant Project Manager before leaving in 2013 to pursue further education at the University of Virginia. While there, they served as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant. In 2018, they joined Luna Innovations Incorporated as a Research Scientist leading the Biophysics Team within the Biotech Group, focusing on model-informed product design for warfighter protection. Kelley left Luna in 2022 to become the Principal Scientist and Manager of Biotech Devices at Luna Labs USA, where they oversee research and product development in human-interfacing, human performance, and wearable sensors. Kelley also leads programs for biomechanical model-informed design for warfighter protection from pain and injury, wearable physiologic monitors, and medical simulation for orthopedic injury management. Kelley'swork experience reflects a strong focus on research and development, with a particular interest in warfighter protection and biomechanical modeling.
Kelley Virgilio obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia in 2009. Kelley then pursued Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the same institution in 2018.
