Sonja Aits serves as a Research Group Leader at Lund University since November 2017, where leadership is provided to the "Cell Death, Lysosomes and Artificial Intelligence" group, focusing on developing AI tools to explore lysosome function and related human diseases. Additionally, Aits holds the position of Study Director at the COMPUTE Research School, coordinating activities for over 270 PhD students and 300 researchers. Contributions to climate and biodiversity research are made as a member of the ClimBioSis leadership group. Aits is also affiliated with LINXS, leading the "Artificial Intelligence for X-Ray and Neutron Science" working group, and has held previous scientific roles at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Danish Cancer Society. Academic credentials include a PhD in Biomedicine from Lund University, alongside a Master’s degree in the same field and a Pre-diploma in Molecular Medicine from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg.
