Wesley Leoricy Marques has a diverse work experience in the field of microbiology and biosciences. Wesley Leoricy'smost recent role is as a Lead Fermentation Scientist at Luya since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Nutrition & Biosciences (2021-2022) and DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences (2020-2021), where they served as the Leader of the Microbial Metabolism Center of Expertise. At these companies, they were responsible for setting and executing the strategy for the center and collaborating with other CoEs.
Before joining the industry, Marques was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2018-2020), where they worked in the Prather Lab, focusing on chemical engineering. Wesley Leoricy also worked as a Consultant for SENAI CETIQT in 2018, where they designed a project on metabolic engineering of microbial strains for industrial purposes.
Marques holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Microbiology from Technische Universiteit Delft (2014-2018). During their doctoral studies, they engineered the sugar metabolism of yeast and invented a CRISPR/Cas9 multiplexing technology for gene deletion in yeast. Additionally, they have worked as a Consultant for FEA UNICAMP in 2017, where they conducted experiments for regulatory approval of a food additive, and as a Biotechnology Intern at International Paper from Brazil Ltda in 2011, where they facilitated collaboration between the company's R&D department and academia and collaborated on a research proposal for eucalyptus breeding.
Wesley Leoricy Marques has a strong education background in the field of microbiology and biotechnology. Wesley Leoricy completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology at Universidade Estadual de Campinas from 2008 to 2011. Wesley Leoricy then pursued further studies and obtained a Master of Science degree in Biotecnhology from USP - Universidade de São Paulo between 2012 and 2014. Following that, they attended Delft University of Technology from 2014 to 2018, where they successfully completed their PhD in Industrial Microbiology. Most recently, Wesley Leoricy Marques was a postdoctoral researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2018 to 2020, specializing in Industrial Microbiology in the Chemical Engineering Department.
