Jimmy Nugent began their work experience in 1994 as a Summer Engineering Intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. After that, they worked as a Summer Engineering Intern at DIAMOND SHAMROCK in 1995. From 1996 to 1998, they worked as a Project Engineer at Ultramar Diamond Shamrock. In 1998, they joined Clark Refining as a Project Engineer and stayed there until 2000. Then, they moved to MeadWestvaco (MWV) and worked as a Project Engineer until 2002. Since 2002, Jimmy has been working at LyondellBasell, starting as an Inspection Supervisor and moving up to the roles of Reliability Manager and Fixed Equipment Lead Project Engineer.

From 1991 to 1995, Jimmy Nugent attended the University of Oklahoma, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering.
