Janet Newcomb

Performing Arts Coordinator for Performing Arts Readiness Project at Lyrasis

Janet Newcomb has a diverse and extensive work experience in the arts and nonprofit sectors. Janet started their career as the Executive Director of ARTS of the Southern Finger Lakes in 1999 and held this position until 2004. Afterwards, they served as the Consulting Executive Director for the Metropolitan Arts Council from 2004 to 2005. From 2005 to 2007, Janet worked as the Interim President & CEO and VP of Development for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Janet then became the Executive Director of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra from 2007 to 2009, during which they also worked as an adjunct faculty member for arts management at the College of Charleston. In 2010, Janet assumed the role of Executive Director for the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes until 2012. Janet subsequently worked as the Founding Director of the Leadership in the Arts & Entertainment Industries graduate program at the New York Institute of Technology from 2015 to 2016. In 2017, they joined LYRASIS as the Performing Arts Coordinator for the Performing Arts Readiness Project. Most recently, in 2018, Janet became the Executive Director of the National Coalition for Arts' Preparedness and Emergency Response.

Janet Newcomb has a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Modern Dance from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Music from Hood College.
