Joe Collman

Joe Collman is a Technical AI Governance Researcher at the Machine Intelligence Research Institute since July 2024, focusing on enhancing the safety of smarter-than-human AI. Previously, Joe served as a Teaching Fellow for the AI safety fundamentals course at BlueDot Impact and conducted independent research on long-term AI safety strategies from September 2018 to August 2024. From April 2022 to August 2023, Joe held the position of Technical Lead at the Stanford Existential Risks Initiative, guiding scholars in AI alignment research. Joe's experience also includes roles in game design and software development, specifically as a Developer at Dynamo Analytics and as a self-employed Designer/Programmer. Joe earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Warwick in 2004.
