David Powell is an accomplished Principal Engineer at Magnomatics Limited since April 2008, with responsibilities that evolved from leading the design and manufacture of electrical machines to overseeing multi-disciplinary engineering teams on significant customer and government-funded programs. Previous to this role, David served as Head of Design Services, managing major projects in sectors such as oil and gas and aerospace. Between 2003 and 2008, David contributed to the University of Sheffield as Programme Manager within the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre, overseeing various R&D projects and serving as Principal Investigator on several initiatives. David's educational background includes a PhD in Electrical Machines and a BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Sheffield.

Magnomatics is a high technology spin-out company from the largest electrical machines research group in the UK.Magnomatics was established in 2006 as a spin-out from the University of Sheffield to commercialise ground-breaking research on magnetic transmission systems, high-torque electrical machines and electromechanical actuators and dampersbeing undertaken by Dr Kais Atallah and Professor David Howe in the Electrical Machines and Drives research group at the University.
