Evan Richardson has a diverse range of work experience in the healthcare field. Evan started their career in 1994 as a Certified Nurse Midwife at Morris Heights Health Center, where they provided full scope midwifery services in an out-of-hospital birthing center. Evan then worked at Harbor Hospital from 1995 to 1996, where they continued to provide full scope midwifery services and also served as an ER and labor and delivery floor triage and admission provider.
In 1997, Evan moved to St Joseph's Hospital, where they again provided full scope midwifery services and worked in collaboration with the hospital's medical staff under the supervision of the MFM department. Evan then joined New Dawn Midwifery in 2001, offering full scope midwifery services in both hospital and home delivery settings.
In 2003, Evan took on the role of Practice Manager at Beacon Healthcare Associates, providing leadership and management for the practice. Simultaneously, they worked as a Certified Nurse Midwife at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, Inc., offering gynecological and women's primary care services on a part-time basis.
From 2010 to 2022, Evan served as the Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at Mountain AHEC. In this role, they led the Health Innovation Partners team and provided consultation and expertise in various areas, such as QI processes and infrastructure, leadership development, ambulatory practice redesign, value-based payment models, and population health systems of care.
In 2019, Evan joined Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) as a Certified Nurse Midwife, providing comprehensive midwifery services. Evan also held the position of Director of Community Health Integration from 2019 to 2022, overseeing the integration of community health programs. In 2022, they transitioned to the role of Clinical Director of Community Health Transformation, further expanding their responsibilities in promoting community health initiatives.
Evan Richardson's education history starts with completing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Politics and French at Mount Holyoke College in 1985. Following that, Evan attended Columbia University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 1992. Later, Evan pursued further studies at the Columbia University School of Nursing and obtained a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in the field of Nurse Midwife/Nursing Midwifery in 1994.

The Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) is a leader in healthcare practice, education, innovation and research, and is the home of UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC and UNC Asheville-UNC Gillings Master of Public Health (MPH) Program. Located in Asheville, MAHEC serves a 16-county region in Western North Carolina. We are the largest Area Health Education Center in North Carolina, which evolved to address national and state concerns with the supply, retention and quality of health professionals. MAHEC provides patient care at nine Family Health Centers, two Ob/Gyn Specialists and two Dental Health Centers across the region. We are the only high-risk obstetrics practice in the region and a safety net provider. Our health professions education creates a pipeline of quality healthcare professionals from inspiring health careers in high school to providing clinical and professional training through undergraduate internships, allied health programs, medical school, residency programs, rural and specialty fellowships, and continuing medical and health education for thousands of participants annually.
