Ginger Poulton has had extensive work experience in the field of healthcare and education. Ginger began their career as a Family Medicine Resident Physician at Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) from July 2010 to June 2013. Ginger then transitioned to the role of Faculty Physician at MAHEC, where they made curricular decisions for the residency program and coordinated the didactic curriculum and applied activities for the Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum (LMRC) program. Ginger also served as the Head of Didactic Education, overseeing educational sessions for the residents. Additionally, Ginger Poulton was a Physician Lead for the Community Health Worker Project and the Head of the GME Wellness Committee at MAHEC.

In 2018, Ginger Poulton also became a Board Member for the Physician Wellness Committee at Western Carolina Medical Society.

In 2020, they joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor. Prior to their medical career, Ginger Poulton worked as a High School Science Teacher for Teach For America from June 2004 to May 2006.

Ginger Poulton pursued their education starting with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology Major with a Spanish Minor at the University of Virginia from 2000 to 2004. Following that, they attended Arizona State University from 2004 to 2006, earning a Master of Education degree in Secondary Education. Finally, they completed their formal education at the University of Michigan Medical School, where they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 2010.
