Sangwoo Shim has a wealth of experience in the technology and data science fields. Sangwoo began their career in 2002 as a Software Developer at Innuworks Systems Inc. In 2003, they moved to Future Systems Inc., where they created embedded Linux applications in C to manage connected home appliances. In 2010, they were a Summer Associate at Hanwha Securities in the Strategic Trading Team. In 2011, they were a Summer Associate in the Global Quantitative Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In 2012, they were an Associate in the Quantitative Strategies Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where they improved BGM/CEV models for exotic interest rate derivatives. In 2014, they were Vice President of Portfolio Management at WorldQuant LLC, where they carried out alpha generation research with various datasets using machine learning and statistical methods. In 2017, they were a Senior Professional at Samsung Electronics, where they produced short-mid term TV sales forecast by regions and markets. In 2018, they became Chief Technology Officer and Chief Data Scientist at MakinaRocks, where they analyzed sensor data of manufacturing equipment and facilities to provide predictive maintenance and quality management, and carried out deep learning research focusing on unsupervised and semi-supervised learning.

Sangwoo Shim attended Seoul National University from 1999 to 2002, earning a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. Sangwoo then attended the same university from 2005 to 2007, earning a Master's degree in Physical Chemistry. Sangwoo then attended Harvard University from 2007 to 2012, earning a PhD in Chemical Physics and an AM in Statistics. Prior to this, they attended the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) from 1996 to 1999.
