Carolyn Sawin is an experienced academic professional with a strong background in education, writing, and student support. Currently serving as an Academic Coach at Mansfield Hall since November 2022, Carolyn provides assistance to neurodivergent college students, focusing on academic skills and leading student events. Previous roles include Freelance Writer and Editor for the UVM Foundation, where Carolyn crafted communication for diverse audiences, and Paraeducator at Colchester High School, advocating for at-risk students and implementing individualized learning plans. Carolyn's teaching experience includes positions at Saint Michael's College and Manlius Pebble Hill School, where undergraduate and high school students benefited from instruction and mentoring. With a PhD and Master's degree in Anthropology from the University of Washington and a BA in History from Harvard University, Carolyn has a well-rounded academic foundation supporting a diverse career in education and writing.

Mansfield Hall

Mansfield Hall supports young adults attending college and transitioning to independence. We are a comprehensive residential program that is individualized and flexible based on student needs. We serve students who have learning disabilities, mild autism, Asperger’s syndrome, nonverbal learning disabilities, ADHD, executive functioning impairments, or other students with unique characteristics that may pose challenges in the transition to college life. We are much more than just a college support program. Our goal is to provide necessary skills training in all areas of adaptive functioning so our students can flourish academically, socially, vocationally, and emotionally. While learning at the local colleges, living in a supported and integrated environment, giving to others, and engaging in the community, we believe that our students will be better prepared for, and more successful in, today’s world. Our residences are located in the Burlington, Vermont, Madison, Wisconsin, and Eugene, Oregon, where there are many options for engaging in school and life beyond the classroom.
