Maram Foundation
The Maram Foundation for Relief and Development (MFRD or Maram) is an international NGO that provides humanitarian assistance to Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). It was founded in 2011 as a group of Syrian-Americans distributing relief aid on the Syria-Turkish border encountered a young girl named Maram. She had recently been paralyzed in the shelling of her village and her story of bravery and kindness inspired the organization’s name. Maram is registered in Texas, USA, and headquartered in Gaziantep, Turkiye where it currently employs approximately 40 full-time staff members and hundreds of IDPs/ refugees for project-based aid work. Additionally, the organization has created a network of hundreds of local volunteers. Driven by its vision to help build a society grounded on tolerance, acceptance, social justice and dignity, Maram adopts a holistic approach to programming, addressing both immediate and long-term needs. Furthermore, Maram's programs harness the expertise, talents, and passions of local teams to promote individual life-skills and community empowerment in the pursuit of a self-sustainable and independent future. Specifically, Maram’s programs encompass camp coordination and management, orphan support, education, early recovery, shelter, aid logistics, hygiene, food security, core relief items and mental health. Today, Maram serves over 500,000 displaced Syrians annually, both inside Syria and in Turkey.
