Dr. Vernon Phillips, CTSS, CCC has a diverse work experience that spans over several years. Dr. Vernon began their career in 2010 as a Detention Deputy at Marion County Sheriff's Office, where they later served as a Chaplain and Director of Chaplain Services & Peer Support Unit. In 2021, Dr. Phillips joined Oakcrest Baptist Church as an Elder. Prior to that, they were the Youth Pastor at the same church from 2016 to 2020.

Dr. Vernon Phillips, CTSS, CCC has a diverse and extensive education history. Dr. Vernon began their educational journey at Genesee Community College, where they obtained an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from 2002 to 2007.

Continuing their education, Dr. Phillips pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies at Liberty University from 2014 to 2016. Dr. Vernon then pursued a Master of Arts degree in Discipleship and Christian Ministry from 2016 to 2017 at the same institution.

Dr. Phillips furthered their studies and completed their Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Counseling at Liberty University from 2019 to 2022. This degree equipped him with expertise in pastoral counseling to assist individuals in need.

Most recently, Dr. Phillips pursued an EdS in Community Care and Counseling with a specialization in Traumatology at Liberty University from 2023 to 2024. This program enhanced their skills in addressing trauma-related concerns and providing effective community care and counseling.

Additionally, Dr. Phillips holds several certifications, enhancing their qualifications and expertise in their field. These include being a Certified Trauma Services Specialist (CTSS) obtained in August 2021 from the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS). Dr. Vernon is also a Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional (CCFP) from PESI, obtained in January 2023.

Furthermore, Dr. Phillips received certifications such as Board Certified Christian Counselor, Clinical Pastoral Therapist, Marriage and Family Pastoral Therapist, and Certified Crisis Chaplain from various institutions, including the National Association of Christian Counselors and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. Dr. Vernon has also participated in additional training programs focused on suicide prevention, grief and loss, and mental health coaching.
