Royston Somerfield CMIOSH has over 30 years of work experience in various roles related to safety, health, and environmental management. Royston is currently the Group Director of Safety, Health and Environmental/Sustainability Management at Maris Interiors LLP since October 2022. Previously, from 2008 to 2022, they served as the Director of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Management Systems at STO Building Group. Before that, they were the Group SHEQ Director at IDM Design and Build from 2006 to 2008. From 2001 to 2006, Royston held positions as the Head of EHS and Regional EHS Manager at GDF. Royston began their career as a Mechanical Electrical Engineer at Royal Fleet Auxiliary from 1989 to 1997. While studying at Nottingham Trent University, they also worked as a SHEQ advisor for Hays from 1998 to 2001.

Royston Somerfield CMIOSH completed a Master's degree in Occupational Health, Safety and Enforcement Law at Nottingham Trent University from 2006 to 2007. Royston also obtained a Lead auditor certification for ISO14001, ISO27001 & ISO45001 and was an Internal Auditor for ISO9001 & ISO37001 through the BSI Training Academy. Additionally, they received a PgD in Safety Management and a SHEM Diploma (Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management) from Nottingham Trent University. Royston also has certifications in P405 Buildings Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos from Northamptonshire, and they hold City & Guilds qualifications in Mechanical Electrical Engineering and Coded welding from the Royal Naval College (Gravesend National Sea Training College).
