Stephen Makin

Vice President, Waltham Petcare Science Institute

Stephen Makin is a highly experienced professional in the fields of research and development, currently serving as the Head of Research at the Waltham Pet Care Science Institute within Mars since March 2024. Makin has extensive academic involvement, holding the position of Visiting Professor at King's College London since January 2014 and an Honorary Professorship at Keele University in July 2019. Previously, Makin worked as Chief Scientific Officer at Tangerine Holdings and held various leadership roles at GSK, including Vice President positions in Consumer Health and Pain Relief R&D. Notable achievements include a career break during which Makin contributed to teaching and vaccination efforts, as well as multiple fellowships with prestigious organizations such as the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Makin holds a PhD in Pharmaceutics and a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacy from The University of Manchester.
