Douglas Lent has extensive experience in communications and marketing roles. Douglas worked as the Communications Director for Maryland Family Network, where they developed and implemented strategic communications and marketing plans to raise the organization's visibility. Prior to that, they were the Regional Communications Officer for the American Red Cross Chesapeake Region, responsible for the strategic communication direction in 14 counties. Douglas also worked as the Manager of Public Relations and Social Media for the American Red Cross of Central Maryland, where they successfully placed stories in various media outlets and implemented social media strategies. Before that, they were the Manager of Membership and Communications for Generations United, where they managed media outreach and coordination of events. Douglas started their career as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member for the Mayors Council on Community Schools and then worked as a Program Specialist for Reading is Fundamental. Douglas also served as a Volunteer Coordinator for Start Making A Reader Today.

Douglas Lent earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Eastern University during the years 1993 to 1996. Douglas further pursued their education at The Johns Hopkins University where they obtained a Master's Degree in Communications from 2012 to 2015. Additionally, Douglas has acquired several certifications including Advanced Public Affairs Training from the American Red Cross, Advocacy Leaders Program from the Maryland Nonprofit Association, Basic Public Information Officer from the University of MD/Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, and Disaster Public Affairs Training from the American Red Cross.
