Ahmed Abdelaal is the Group CEO at Mashreq Bank. Ahmed has over 20 years of experience in the banking and finance industry.

Ahmed started their career in 1996 as an Assistant Manager in Corporate Banking at American Express in the Middle East and North Africa. Ahmed then moved to Arab African International Bank in 1999 as Deputy Credit and Marketing Manager for Corporate Banking. In 2003, they joined ABN AMRO Bank N.V. as Vice President of Corporate Banking.

In 2007, Ahmed joined HSBC as Regional Head of Corporate Clients Coverage MENAT and Head of Commercial Banking UAE. In this role, they were responsible for providing strategic direction and overall management and development of HSBC’s Corporate Banking franchise in the MENA and Turkey. Ahmed also had the overall responsibility for Commercial Banking Business in UAE. This included segments such as Large Corporates, Public Sector, International Corporates, Middle Market and SME covering the entire spectrum of banking and finance solutions.

Ahmed has been with Mashreq Bank since October 2017 and is currently the Group CEO.

Ahmed Abdelaal graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences at Cairo University. Ahmed then went on to earn an MBA from the London Business School.

Some direct reports include Scott Ramsay - Group Head of Compliance & Bank Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), Marouf Mohamed Shweikeh - Group General Counsel, and Roy Philip Sebastian - Group Chief Credit Officer.
