Professionally, he is an Agricultural Chemist, having specialized in soil science and plant nutrition, and involved in technological and policy interventions for the promotion of rational fertilizer use in tea and other crop sectors in Sri Lanka.

Maskeliya Plantations PLC is a Sri Lanka-based food manufacturing company. The Company is engaged in the cultivation, manufacture and sale of black tea. The Company is also engaged in the plantation and cultivation of timber. The Company's geographical segments include Maskeliya, Upcot, Talawakelle and Bandarawela. The Company has also commenced planting Rubber and Cinnamon. The Company operates with over 20 tea estates and approximately 10 factories with a land base of 10, 560 hectares in various districts in the Upcountry Region. The Company's plantations are situated in the planting districts of Bandarawela, which covers an area of approximately 3, 925 hectares; Maskeliya, which covers an area of over 2, 550 hectares; Upcot, which covers an area of approximately 2, 570 hectares, and Talawakelle, which covers an area of over 1, 520 hectares. The Company is a subsidiary of RPC Management Services (Pvt) Ltd.
