Our story begins with a man, and the American Dream. Frank Massa born to an Italian Immigrant family, he was born in Boston’s North End, and grew-up the Boston Area. His grandmother saved a jar of dimes for his education, but he ended-up going to MIT on a full academic scholarship. He then graduated “Swope Fellow” at MIT, and continued on to earn his MS in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation Frank continued his work as a young Engineer in Camden, NJ at Victor Talking Machine, which later became RCA Victor, and eventually RCA. He collaborated with our Nation’s brightest thinkers on various new to the world developments and advancements in sound, acoustics, and eventually ultrasonics and SONAR. Frank found himself on the forefront of changing the world as we know it with respect to sound. He developed several iconic designs for microphones, loudspeakers, and horns. He even worked on transforming silent films into “talkies” or talking moving pictures during the great depression. He also perfected the construction, performance, and operational design for our Navy’s advanced SONARS used in WWII while at Brush Development in Cleveland OH. MASSA has had some transformations over the years. We were founded in 1945 as Massa Laboratories in Cleveland, OH by Industry Pioneer, Frank Massa. Frank is recognized in the industry as the Father of Modern SONAR Transducers. He was credited by the US Navy for his innovations in SONAR development, advancement, and construction as being an integral factor in the US’s success in winning WWII. He coauthored the first ever engineering textbook on Acoustics, Applied Acoustics, Olson & Massa 1934. MASSA relocated in 1950 to our present address; 280 Lincoln Street Hingham, MA. In 1976 we became Massa Products Corporation, which is our present configuration of the company co-founded by Frank Massa and his son Don Massa. MASSA today is a Third Generation Family Business, co-lead by Don Massa as President and CEO, and daughter
