Avana Epperson-Temple serves as the President of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association since April 2017, holding previous roles including President-Elect and Vice President, all while chairing the Membership Development Committee. Epperson-Temple is also the Director at Pine Street Inn since August 2015 and has been actively involved with the Anti-Defamation League as a member of the New England Board and Co-Chair of the Associate Board since August 2018. Additionally, Epperson-Temple's legal experience includes positions as an Associate Attorney at Peabody & Arnold LLP from October 2019 to December 2024 and Morrison Mahoney LLP from March 2018 to October 2019. Epperson-Temple earned a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Northeastern University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Sociology from Emory University.

Since 1973, the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association (MBLA) has provided a valuable network and visible presence for attorneys of color within the Massachusetts legal community. The MBLA is responsible for providing its membership with professional development and career advancement through training, continued education and mentorship programs. The MBLA also sponsors forums on current topics of interest to persons in the legal community, and seeks collaborations with other bar associations and professional organizations, particularly those interested in providing services to communities of color.
