Shawn Murphy is a skilled fire services professional with extensive experience, currently serving as a hazardous materials technician at the Department of Fire Services / Mass Fire Academy since October 2019. In addition, Shawn has been a rescue specialist with the Massachusetts Urban Search and Rescue Team (FEMA) since January 2016 and holds the position of Captain at the Newton Fire Department, where employment began in November 2000. Academic achievements include a Master's degree in Fire Services Administration from Waldorf University (2014-2016), a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science/Fire-fighting from Waldorf College (2010-2012), and two Associate's degrees—one in Fire Science/Fire-fighting from Middlesex Community College (2001-2005) and another in Business Administration and Management from Massachusetts Bay Community College (1993-1995). Shawn completed secondary education at Newton North High School (1989-1993).

Massachusetts Task Force 1 (MA-TF 1) is one of 28 DHS/FEMA sponsored Urban Search and Rescue Teams. Sponsored by the City of Beverly, MA the team is comprised of volunteers from all 6 of the New England States. We have deployed to numerous natural and man-made disasters.
