Deepa Damre Smith

Deepa Damre Smith currently serves as General Counsel at Matthews Asia, a position held since July 2022. Prior to this role, Deepa spent nearly 18 years at BlackRock, where responsibilities included serving as Managing Director of Legal & Compliance and leading the US ETF Legal Team, overseeing legal and regulatory matters for a substantial ETF complex with over $2 trillion in assets under management. Additional experience includes serving as Director in the Legal & Compliance department and as Principal in the US Legal Group at Barclays Global Investors, along with an Associate role at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman from 2000 to 2004. Deepa holds both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
