Sean Eddy

Scientific Advisor at Maverix Biomics

Computational biologist Sean Eddy is a group leader at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Farm Research Campus in Virginia. Dr. Eddy has been a pioneer in applying Bayesian statistics to a broad range of biological sequence analysis problems. His group has developed several of the leading tools for protein (HMMER) and RNA (Infernal) gene searches, which have formed the foundation for major scientific resources such as the Pfam and Rfam databases. Dr. Eddy completed his Bachelor’s in biology at the California Institute of Technology, his doctorate in molecular biology at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and was a postdoctoral fellow at NeXagen Pharmaceuticals, and the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. Prior to his current position, he was an HHMI investigator at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
