Akshay Khare

Machine Learning Engineer II at mavQ

Akshay Khare has a diverse work experience in the field of machine learning and computer science. Akshay currently works as a Machine Learning Engineer at mavQ since June 2022. Prior to that, they were a Machine Learning Engineer at MTX Group from August 2020 to May 2022. In this role, they focused on solving problems related to Computer Vision in the sports domain, developing deep learning models for tasks like object detection, tracking, event detection, and pose estimation.

Before joining MTX Group, Akshay served as a Dual Degree Project Researcher at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras from July 2019 to May 2020. Under the guidance of Prof. Harish G Ramaswamy, they developed a unique domain adaptation approach to improve generalization on test data with a distributional shift from training data. This approach involved training multiple diverse classifiers.

In 2019, Akshay also worked as a Research Intern at The University of Salford, where they collaborated with Prof. Philip Scarf. During this internship, they developed statistical models to predict Australian Football League scores. Akshay estimated model parameters by maximizing discounted log likelihood loss.

Furthermore, Akshay has gained industry experience as a Computer Vision Intern at Oneirix Labs in December 2018 and January 2019. Akshay created a computer vision system for real-time vehicle detection and tracking in CCTV footage, and also devised a novel metric for image similarity using multiple feature extractors.

In addition, Akshay worked as a Data Science Intern at Cytel from May 2018 to July 2018. Akshay developed an email classification system to automatically segregate customer support emails, achieving content-based email classification with an F-1 score of 92. Akshay utilized a bag-of-words model with a TF-IDF scheme to extract words with high discriminatory power.

To gain practical experience, Akshay underwent industrial training at Cochin Shipyard Limited in May and June 2017.

Overall, Akshay Khare has a strong background in machine learning, computer vision, and data science, with a range of experience in research, industry, and internships.

Akshay Khare completed their Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) in Ocean Engineering and Data Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras from 2015 to 2020. Prior to that, they studied Science for 11th and 12th Standard at Sir Parashurambhau College in Pune. Additionally, Akshay obtained a certification as an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner from Amazon Web Services in May 2023.
