Manuel Tamez has held a variety of roles in the technology industry. In 2007, they began working for Google as the Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. In this role, they worked to shape the future of the internet in the region and was an active participant in the development of innovation and technology policies. Manuel also served as the New Business Development Manager, leading Google's efforts to launch Maps in Mexico and Google's strategy towards the Democratic and Republican parties during the 2008 US Presidential Campaigns.
In 2010, Manuel Tamez co-founded Mayahii and served as the Chairman. In 2011, they became a Board Member for the Mexico Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. In 2012, they were appointed President of the Asociación Mexicana de Internet (AMIPCI), an organization fostering the expansion and growth of the Internet in Mexico.
In 2013, Manuel Tamez began working for Tecnológico de Monterrey as the Vice Rector of Educational Innovation and Rector at Universidad TecVirtual.
Manuel Tamez obtained their BSc in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey in 1992-1996. Manuel then obtained their BSc in Economics from Tecnológico de Monterrey in 1998-2000. After that, they attended Harvard Kennedy School from 2004-2007 and obtained a Master in Public Administration / International Development (MPA/ID). Finally, they attended MIT Sloan School of Management from 2005-2007 and obtained a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.).
