Matthew Hanley

Director, MCS Operations Technical Support Services at Mayo Clinic Laboratories

Matthew Hanley has a diverse work experience in the field of laboratory medicine and operations. Matthew started their career at IBM as a Co-op Chemist in the Materials Process Engineering Laboratory, where they gained expertise in thermal analysis and chemical synthesis.

Later, Matthew joined Mayo Clinic as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the Metals Laboratory. Matthew was responsible for routine analysis of clinical samples using various methodologies. Matthew also played a key role in designing laboratory processes and interfaces for result reporting.

Matthew's role at Mayo Clinic evolved over the years, and they took on positions of increasing responsibility. Matthew served as a Development Technologist, where they focused on developing new assays and improving processes for patient care and research. Matthew then became a Supervisor in the Metals Laboratory, where they worked on the strategic direction of the laboratory and provided mentorship to their colleagues.

Matthew further advanced their career as a Supervisor of the Clinical Mass Spectrometry Laboratory, overseeing diagnostic support for endocrine system disorders and therapeutic substance monitoring. In this role, they demonstrated collaborative skills by working with laboratory directors and administrative leaders to meet patient and client needs.

Matthew's last role before their current position at Mayo Clinic Laboratories was as a Project Manager in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. Matthew managed laboratory remodels and moves within the department, streamlining operations and ensuring cooperation among stakeholders.

Currently, Matthew holds the position of Director of MCS Operations Technical Support Services at Mayo Clinic Laboratories. In this role, they are responsible for operational oversight of referral testing, technical resource and client support, and specimen distribution. Matthew works in partnership with medical leadership and field sales & service staff to extend Mayo Clinic's reach worldwide through reference laboratory testing services.

Matthew Hanley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, which they received in 2004. Matthew later pursued a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration from the same university, completing it in 2015.
