Alan Naughton

Lead Photonic Integration Engineer at mBryonics

Alan Naughton has a wealth of work experience in photonic integration engineering and research. In 2018, they began working as a Lead Photonic Integration Engineer at mBryonics Ltd, where their roles included project management, overseeing the development of photonic packages, packaging and integration process development, test and measurement of packaged devices and systems, and the development of novel architectures for optical data and communication links. From 2014 to 2018, they worked as a Research Scientist and Project Manager at the Tyndall National Institute, where they were the technical lead for packaging applications and workpackage leader in the H2020 PIX4life Pilot Line. Additionally, they managed packaging activities on a number of EU funded, European Space Agency, and industry related research projects. From 2015 to 2018, they worked as a Part-time assistant lecturer at the Cork Institute of Technology.

Alan Naughton completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physics from University College Cork, Ireland (UCC) between 2009 and 2014. Prior to this, they obtained a BSc in Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Galway between 2003 and 2007. In 2016, they completed a Project Management Techniques course, which was 5 ECTS credits at Level 7 on the NFQ, from Munster Technological University.
