John D. Russell

John Russell is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in intellectual property law and engineering. As a Founding Partner at McCoy Russell since April 2017, Russell contributes significant expertise to the firm. In addition, Russell serves as an Adjunct Professor at Lewis & Clark Law School, teaching patent law courses since December 2022. An active author, Russell writes for Mr. IP Law Blog, a role held since July 2015. Previous positions include serving on the Board of Directors at Forth and as a Founding Partner at Alleman Hall McCoy Russell & Tuttle. Russell also has a background in IP at Ford Motor Company from 1995 to 2001. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Law (JD) in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Michigan Law School, a Master of Science (M.S.) in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University.
