Roger Szuminsky began their work experience in 1979 with the US Army, serving in various roles in military police units. In 1987, they joined the Pennsylvania State Police, where they held multiple positions in Troop "B" Washington and the Special Emergency Response Team until 2011. In 2011, they became the Chief of Police at the McGuffey School District.
Roger Szuminsky completed their high school education at David B. Oliver High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1980. Prior to that, they attended Pittsburgh Brashear High School from 1976 to 1979. In 1981, Roger enrolled at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where they studied but did not earn a degree. In terms of certifications, they obtained the Pennsylvania State lethal weapons training act Instructor certification from the Pennsylvania State Police in January 2018. In August 2014, Roger became an A.L.I.C.E. Instructor through the ALICE Training Institute and also completed the National Advanced School Resource Officer Course through the National Association School Resource Officers. In October 2013, they received the School C.P.T.E.D. (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) Practitioner Certification from the National Association of School Resource Officers. Lastly, in February 2012, Roger completed the National Basic School Resource Officer Course, also through the National Association School Resource Officers.
