Diyar Bozkurt

Vice President, Infrastructure at McKissack & McKissack

Diyar Bozkurt has a varied work experience in the field of infrastructure and construction. They started their career in 1997 as a Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they evaluated reflective crack control policies for the Illinois Department of Transportation. They then worked as an Engineering Associate at Applied Pavement Technology, Inc, where they were involved in pavement evaluation and management studies.

In 2003, Diyar Bozkurt became a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. They subsequently joined Stantec as a Project Manager and Pavement and Geotechnical Engineer, where they worked on highway twinning and geotechnical investigations. They then moved to YALCIN, INC. as an Estimate Manager and Construction Project Manager, overseeing quantity take-offs and project logistics for stone construction.

In 2008, Diyar Bozkurt joined WSP as a Resident Engineer and Assistant Construction Manager, where they handled reconstruction projects, including composite pavements and brick gutters. They also served as a Project Engineer, conducting drilled shaft inspections.

From 2012 to 2014, Diyar Bozkurt worked at the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) as a Supervisory Civil Engineer and Construction Manager, supervising construction projects in Washington, D.C.

In 2014, they joined HNTB as a Construction Program Manager and Senior Construction Manager. In 2015, Diyar Bozkurt returned to DDOT as a Program Manager, handling various projects including the I-295/Malcolm X Interchange Improvement Project and the DC PLUG project.

Most recently, Diyar Bozkurt has been working as the Vice President of Infrastructure at McKissack & McKissack since 2022.

Diyar Bozkurt received a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they studied from 1997 to 2002. Prior to that, they completed their M.Sc. in Civil Engineering at the same university from 1995 to 1997. Diyar Bozkurt obtained their B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, where they studied from 1989 to 1993.

In addition to their formal education, Diyar Bozkurt has obtained several certifications. Diyar completed various courses in deep learning, convolutional neural networks, and sequence models from Coursera in October 2020. Diyar also completed certifications such as Certified Construction Manager (CCM) from The Construction Manager Certification Institute in May 2014, Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute in April 2013, and Professional Engineer from different state departments of licensing and regulation between 2008 and 2009.
