Matthew McLendon

Matthew McLendon, PhD, currently serves as the Director and CEO of the McNay Art Museum since February 2023. Previously, McLendon held the position of J. Sanford Miller Family Director and Chief Curator at The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia from January 2017 to February 2023, where responsibilities included overseeing museum operations, managing staff, and directing acquisitions and programming. Prior to that, McLendon was the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art from January 2010 to November 2016, where initiatives such as the Art of Our Time were developed. Additional roles included Adjunct Professor at New College of Florida and Courtesy Faculty at Florida State University. Educational qualifications include a PhD and MA in History of Art from The Courtauld Institute of Art and dual BA degrees in Art History and Music from Florida State University.
