Venkat Venkataramanan has extensive work experience in various scientific and academic roles. Venkat is currently an Industrial Professor at McMaster University, a position they started in 2021. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Scientific Officer at McRae Imaging Inc. starting in 2020.
One of their notable accomplishments includes founding Lumentra Inc. in 2009, where they served as the Founder and Chief Technology Officer. Lumentra is a cleantech company specializing in nanomaterial solutions for thermal management in LED lighting. Venkataramanan successfully established Lumentra as a revenue-positive company from its inception.
Venkat also held positions at the Impact Centre, University of Toronto, where they acted as the Director and later the Head of Scientific Operations. In this role, they were responsible for securing research contracts, forming research teams, managing projects, and negotiating partnerships and agreements. Venkataramanan worked at the Impact Centre from 2004 to 2020.
Additionally, Venkataramanan has served as an Adjunct Professor at Ryerson University from 2008 to 2012, a Senior Staff Scientist at Photonics Research Ontario from 2001 to 2004, and a Scientific Officer at the Centre for Advanced Technology from 1996 to 1997.
Their career also includes research fellowship positions at RIKEN from 1998 to 2000 and the University of Strathclyde from 1995 to 1996. Venkataramanan began their academic journey as a PhD student at the Indian Institute of Science, where they studied from 1990 to 1995.
