James Martin has a diverse work experience spanning over 24 years. James'smost recent roles include Head of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at McSport and Head of Global Procurement at HIT Fitness, both starting in 2021. Prior to this, they were the Trading Director at Flying Tiger Copenhagen from 2020 to 2021.
From 2016 to 2020, James worked at Alshaya Group, first as the Director of Brand Management for Pottery Barn & West Elm in the MENA region, and then as the Head of Merchandising for West Elm. During their tenure, they achieved significant sales growth, operating margin, and bottom line profitability for the brands.
Before Alshaya Group, James held the position of Global Merchandising, Planning, and Allocations Manager at METRO/MAKRO Cash and Carry from 2013 to 2016. James was responsible for providing merchandising and planning support to 15 European countries in the apparel sector.
Earlier in their career, James worked as a Merchandising & Planning Manager at Sit-up Channels and a Supply Chain Manager at Pout Ltd. James gained valuable experience in merchandising and budgeting functions during their tenure.
James started their career as an Assistant Merchandiser at Debenhams in 2000 and then moved to The Perfume Shop where they worked as a Merchandiser. Prior to that, they had a business placement role as a Trainee Assistant Merchandiser at Marks and Spencer as part of their university sandwich course in 1997.
Overall, James has a strong background in procurement, supply chain management, merchandising, and brand management across various industries. James'strack record includes significant achievements in sales growth, margin improvement, and profitability.
James Martin attended The Nottingham Trent University from 1996 to 2000, where they earned a BA Hons degree in European Business Studies with French. Prior to that, from 1990 to 1995, they attended Canford School in Dorset and completed 12 GCSEs and 3 A Levels.
