Meals on Wheels West

Meals On Wheels West is a Santa Monica-based, non-profit organization dedicated to providing daily nutrition and social interaction to the homebound elderly and disabled residents throughout Los Angeles' coastal communities. Meals On Wheels West is committed to improving the quality of life of its clients and promoting self-respect by enabling them to live independently through daily meal delivery. Each weekday, Meals On Wheels West's caring volunteers deliver healthy lunches and dinners, the daily newspaper, fresh fruit and invaluable companionship. For many clients, these visits are the only social interaction they experience for days or weeks at a time. Meals On Wheels' services allow clients to stay in their homes and remain self-sufficient longer, rather than be consigned to assisted living facilities or burdening public services. In 2010, Meals On Wheels West served more than 80,000 meals to its 396 clients in Los Angeles' coastal communities of Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Topanga and parts of Marina Del Rey. Meals cost an average of $6 per day, but no clients are turned away for inability to pay.
