Benita Staples

Benita Staples is a seasoned GIS professional with extensive experience in geographic data analysis and education. Since August 2007, Benita has served as GIS Manager of Land Records and Addressing at Mecklenburg County, where responsibilities include data mapping of floodplain areas, maintaining county Census data, and promoting geographic education through community outreach. In addition to this role, Benita has been an Adjunct Instructor in Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte since January 2020. Previously, Benita worked as a GIS Technician for the City of Salisbury and as an Earth and Environmental Science Teacher within Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from North Carolina Central University.
