Tammy Hunter Thompson

Tammy Hunter Thompson is a seasoned communications professional with extensive experience in public information, community outreach, and media relations. Currently serving as the Public Information Officer for Mecklenburg County since March 2020, Tammy previously held the position of Communications Director at Gateway85 Gwinnett, where responsibilities included external communications, media relations, and managing community engagement events. Prior to this role, Tammy was the External Affairs Manager at Perimeter Community Improvement Districts, overseeing communications and marketing efforts while collaborating with local agencies and community partners. Tammy's career began at Trident United Way as Marketing Director, where key achievements included increasing agency exposure and managing social media strategy. Tammy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Relations from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Nonprofit Management Certificate from Duke University.
