Errol R. Alden

Dr. Alden recently retired as the Executive Director and CEO of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Previous to his appointment as Executive Director in 2004, he served Director of the Department of Education from 1987 to 1994, Associate Executive Director from 1993 to 1994, and Deputy Executive Director from 1994 to 2004. Dr. Alden has also served as a Clinical Professor in the pediatrics departments at both the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and the University of Chicago. His contributions also include committee work for the American Medical Association, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, and the International Pediatric Association.

Over his extensive career, Dr. Alden has earned numerous awards and honors, including two Gold Medal Awards from the American Academy of Pediatrics for his teaching exhibits “Animal Model for Newborn Infant Resuscitation” and “Heel Stick Blood Cultures.” Internationally, Dr. Alden is a highly respected pediatrician and has been awarded honorary memberships and fellowships with several medical societies around the world, including the Turkish Pediatric Society, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, and the Brazilian Academy of Pediatrics.
