Alan Young has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Alan served as the Chief Technology Officer at Medgene Labs LLC, where they contributed to the development of precision vaccines for agricultural animals, including treatment vaccines for diseases of swine, cattle, and sheep, as well as preventative vaccines for Foreign Animal Diseases. At South Dakota State University, they held two roles: Assistant Director of the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine and Professor of Veterinary and Biomedical Science. In these positions, they focused on vaccine development for emerging diseases, comparative immunology of domestic and wild animals, immunological approaches to evaluate immune responses in non-traditional species, and large animal models of immunological processes. At SD Innovation Partners, Alan served as the Technology Lead for Life Science, providing support for the commercial viability of agricultural and health technologies. Alan also had experience at Harvard Medical School as an Instructor in the Department of Surgery (Promotion Track) and at the Basel Institute for Immunology as a Scientific Member. Alan's work experience began at the University of Toronto, where they were a student from 1985 to 1994.
Alan Young completed their Ph.D. in Immunology/Pathology at the University of Toronto from 1989 to 1994. Following this, they pursued a postdoctoral associate position at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center from 1994 to 1995, focusing on Trauma Research and Neuroimmunology.
