Lewis has prior experience as an Executive Producer at NK Media Lab LLC, where they managed shoots, post-production, and studio operations. Lewis also served as an Executive Producer at Taang! Records, producing video and DVD projects distributed internationally by Universal Music Group. At Universal Music Group, Lewis worked as a Music Video and Documentary Director/Producer, directing music videos for MTV and feature-length music documentaries.

Lewis Smithingham earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Digital Media with a focus on Film Production and Critical Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where they studied from 2004 to 2008. Lewis then pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photo, Video, and Related Media at the School of Visual Arts from 2009 to 2012. In 2012, Lewis also attended Werner Herzog's Rogue Film School for a short graduate program.
