Dr. Viren Naik has extensive work experience in the medical field. Dr. Viren started their career in 2002 as a Staff Anesthesiologist at St. Michael's Hospital and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Viren then joined uOttawa in 2009, where they held various positions including Associate Professor, R.S. McLaughlin Professor of Medical Education, and Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Anesthesiology. Additionally, they worked as a Staff Anesthesiologist at The Ottawa Hospital, where they also served as Vice President of Education and Medical Director of the University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre. Dr. Naik was also involved with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, where they worked as a Director of Assessment and Regional Director International. Currently, they serve as the Chief Assessment Officer at the Medical Council of Canada.
Dr. Viren Naik completed their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at the University of Toronto from 1993 to 1997. Dr. Viren then pursued a Master of Education (MEd) degree at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, specializing in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration, from 1999 to 2001. In 2013, Dr. Naik enrolled at the University of Ottawa - Telfer School of Management, where they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) (Executive) degree, which they completed in 2015.
