Group Vice President - Marketing And Customer Strategy at Meijer

Derek Steele has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Derek started their career at Boeing in 2003 as a Flight Control Systems Engineer for the Space Shuttle Program, where they analyzed and maintained the flight control system performance. In 2008, they joined Meijer and participated in their Leadership Development Program, completing multiple assignments and engaging in financial forecasting for new retail formats in urban markets. Derek then worked as a Buyer/Category Manager, collaborating with major CPG sales and marketing teams and building private label programs. Derek later became a Strategic Projects Manager, leading a review of the corporate business model and collaborating with a consulting team from McKinsey & Co. In 2013, Derek was promoted to Director of Merchandise Planning, overseeing the planning process for fresh products. Derek then transitioned to the role of Director of Merchandising, responsible for frozen foods, dairy, and packaged cheese categories. In 2018, Derek was promoted to Vice President of Customer Strategy, leading the eCommerce and customer loyalty strategy, as well as customer care and insights. Derek currently holds the position of Group Vice President, overseeing marketing and customer strategy.

Derek Steele received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan from 1999 to 2003. Derek then pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Business from Rice Business - Jones Graduate School of Business from 2006 to 2008.
