James Major is a seasoned music educator at the University of Utah since March 2005. A Charter Member of the Wasatch Mountain Food and Wine Society, Major has contributed extensively to music literature as an author for Mel Bay Publications since 1982, producing notable works such as the "Dulcimer Chord Encyclopedia" and various harmonica instruction books. In addition to private music teaching for guitar, harmonica, ukulele, and mountain dulcimer since 1974, Major served as a guest lecturer for the Smithsonian Institution in 2011. Previous roles include customer service representative for U.S. Airways, publisher of The Event Newsweekly from 1987 to 2001, and owner/operator of Acoustic Music, a retail store in Salt Lake City, from 1973 to 1985. James Major's educational background includes studies at the University of Utah and Oakland Community College.
