Joan Smith, co-founder, is an experienced software engineer and bioinformatician who has worked across industry and academia. She also is a member of the Technical Advisory Board at RTP Seed Ventures, an investment fund for emerging companies. While working as a full-time employee at Google, Joan has also served as a bioinformatics consultant at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and Yale University, where she has led ML-focused research projects on cancer genomics and COVID19. Her academic work includes the creation of a novel database for analyzing cancer patient outcomes (http://tcga-survival.com/) and has been highlighted by multiple publications, including Wired, Slate, and the Washington Post. Joan obtained a B.Sc. in Physics from MIT.
