Lori Avallone has an extensive background in the medical field, currently serving in the Family Medicine Program at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island since May 2017. Prior experience includes involvement in the Surgical Residency Training Program at Rhode Island Hospital-University Surgical Associates from August 2015 to April 2017. Lori's academic contributions included advising over 300 medical students at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University from September 1999 to April 2015, while actively promoting the AAMC's Careers in Medicine advisement process. On December 28, 2017, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced the approval of Care New England’s reverse certificate of need application to move forward with the functional closure of Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department. As of January 1, 2018, Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be closed. Care New England remains committed to ensuring access to community-based, outpatient care that meets the future health care needs in the Blackstone Valley.
