Matthew Simpkins

Matthew Simpkins, CFA, has extensive work experience in the financial industry. Matthew is currently the Managing Director of Merchant West Specialised Finance at Merchant West, a position they have held since September 2021. Prior to this role, they served as the Head of Capital Markets at Merchant West from January 2020 to September 2021.

Before joining Merchant West, Matthew worked at MGS Capital as a DCM consultant from November 2018 to January 2020. Matthew also has experience at SA Taxi, where they held the position of Head of Deal Origination: Capital Markets from February 2017 to November 2018, and DCM Originator from April 2015 to February 2017.

Matthew's career began at Transaction Capital Limited in 2009, where they held various roles including DCM Transactor from June 2014 to April 2017 and DCM Manager from June 2009 to June 2014. Prior to that, they worked as a Portfolio Acquisitions Manager at MBD Credit Solutions from January 2007 to June 2009.

Matthew Simpkins, CFA holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Honours degree in Investment Management from the University of Johannesburg, which they completed from 2004 to 2006. Matthew also obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree in Finance, General from Bond University, completing it from 2001 to 2003. In addition, they hold a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems from Bond University, obtained from 2000 to 2003. Matthew attended St. Stithians College, where they completed their Matric studies from 1996 to 2000. Furthermore, they completed a Management Development Programme at Stellenbosch University from 2008 to 2009. Matthew Simpkins became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder in 2015, certified by the CFA Institute.
