Mark McCoy

Sr Principal Scientist/senior Director

Mark McCoy is a seasoned scientist with extensive experience in pharmaceutical research and development, currently serving as Senior Principal Scientist and Senior Director at Merck since 2009. In this role, Mark influences cyclic peptide discovery teams focused on immunology and oncology, while also fostering a cross-functional team aimed at characterizing important biologic molecules. Prior to Merck, Mark held the position of Principal Scientist at Schering Pharmaceuticals, leading biotechnology initiatives with an emphasis on oncology and initiating collaborations in immuno-oncology. Mark's early career includes positions as Senior Scientist at The Wistar Institute, where structural studies on mutant p53 were conducted, and Senior Research Investigator at Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals, focusing on the discovery of MMP inhibitors. Mark holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Princeton University, a BS in Chemistry from Harvey Mudd College, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in NMR Spectroscopy at ETH Zürich.
