Alexander Volkov has a solid work experience in the maritime and commodity trading industry. Alexander started their career as a Summer Intern at LUKOIL-AIK in 2002, followed by internships at LUKOIL in 2003 and 2004. In 2005, they had internships at Palmali Group of Companies and LITASCO SA.

From 2006 to 2009, Volkov worked at Riverlake, specializing in commercial ship management, chartering, and operations. Alexander then joined SOCAR Trading as a Product Tanker Charterer and Oil Products & Shipping Operator from 2010 to 2012. In 2012, they became the Global Head of Shipping Operations and Marine Claims at Mercuria Energy Trading S.A.

In 2019, Volkov took on the role of Professor of Practice in Commodity Trading at the University of Geneva.

Alexander Volkov, EMBA, began their education by earning a Diploma with Honours in English Language and Literature, General from Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia in 2004. Alexander then went on to complete their Master's Degree in Economics at Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) from 2000 to 2006.

In 2011 and 2012, Volkov pursued a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Commodity Trading at the University of Geneva. Following this, they attended IMD in 2014 and 2015 for a program in BOT (Business, Organizations, and Transformation).

Most recently, from 2018 to 2020, Volkov completed their Executive MBA at ESCP Business School, specializing in Business Administration and Management, General.

In addition to their formal education, Volkov has also obtained various certifications. In 2017, they obtained a certificate in Game Theory from Coursera Course Certificates. In 2015, they earned certifications in New Venture Finance: Startup Funding for Entrepreneurs, Innovation for Entrepreneurs: From Idea to Marketplace, and Developing Innovative Ideas for New Companies: The First Step in Entrepreneurship, all from Coursera Verified Certificates.
