Rene Vanhaesendonck has a diverse work experience in the legal field. Rene began their career working as a sole practitioner at R. Vanhaesendonck from 1994 to 1998. Rene then moved on to work as a Legal Counsel at GDF SUEZ from 1998 to 2000. Following this, they worked as the General Counsel, Europe at Sempra Energy Trading from 2000 to 2008. Rene then joined RBS Sempra Commodities as the Director & General Counsel from 2008 to 2010. After that, they served as the Managing Director at JP Morgan, Global Commodities from 2010 to 2014. Currently, they are the General Counsel at Mercuria UK LLP since October 2014.

Rene furthered their education at University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne from 1993 to 1994, obtaining a DESS degree in European Law. Finally, Rene concluded their academic journey at King's College London from 1996 to 1997, specializing in International Business Law and obtaining an LL.M. degree.
